Q. What materials are typically used in Latchways equipment?

A. 316 grade stainless steel is generally used for Latchways fabricated components and cable, whilst 17/4 PH stainless steel and 316 (ANC 4) stainless steel are the predominate materials that our cast components are manufactured from.

Q. What type, size and breaking load cable are used in Latchways cable based fall arrest systems?

A. Latchways use two main types of cable, 7 x 7 and 1 x 19, both of which have a nominal 8mm diameter. The minimum breaking load is 38 kN for the 7 x 7 cable construction and 45 kN for 1 x 19 cable construction.

Q. What are the typical loads that arise in a horizontal system in the event of a fall?

A. For Constant Force post technology the end corner and intermediate anchorage loads are limited to 10 kN. For traditional Latchways systems there are no typical loads as each system is individually designed to accommodate specific customer requirement. It is possible to limit end loads to 8 kN using H-Xtenda's or 12 kN using Super-12 Xtenda's, however end loads for the majority of system designs tend to be between 12 kN and half the minimum cable breaking load, which is 19 kN for 7 x 7 cable and 22.5 kN for 1 x 19 cable. Corner anchorage loads are generally greater than end anchorage loads by up to 40% and dependant upon the system design. The actual working corner anchorage load is a vector of the maximum possible cable tension either side of the corner. Intermediate anchorage loads depend on the number of users that the system is designed for and calculated using the following formula:

Intermediate anchorage load = 6 kN + ([No of Users -1] * 3 kN)

Q. What is the typical anchorage load for a vertical system in the event of a fall?

A. All loads to vertical system anchors are limited to 6 kN by the V-Xtenda incorporated between the anchorage and the cable.

Q. What is the minimum factor of safety incorporated into Latchways system designs?

A. A minimum factor of safety of 2 is incorporated into all aspects of a Latchways fall arrest system design.

Q. What is the expected service life for Latchways equipment?

A. Latchways systems have a service life of 20 years for equipment used under normal inland conditions and 15 years if the system is within 3 km of a coastal or polluted industrial environment.

EN795 Class A1:
Structural anchorages designed to be secured to vertical, horizontal and inclined surfaces.

EN795 Class A2:
Structural anchorages designed to be secured to inclined roofs.

EN795 Class C:
Anchorage devices employing horizontal flexible lines, where a horizontal line is understood to be one that deviates from the horizontal by not more than 15°.

EN795 Class E:
Deadweight anchors for use on horizontal surfaces, where a horizontal surface is understood to be one that deviates from the horizontal by not more than 5°.

Q. Can PushLock be used for Cantilever applications?

A. The following PushLock components may be used for cantilever applications:

12021-00 to a max distance of 115 mm
12022-00 to a max distance of 75 mm
